We are a "Clean Air School"

You can see these signs posted in our car rider loop.  We have kicked-off our No-Idling Campaign once again for the 2011-12 school year.  The campaign encourages parent drivers and school bus drivers to turn off their engines when dropping off or waiting for students, decreasing harmful emissions.

We are proud to be one of  the  “Clean Air Schools” sponsored by the Clean Air Campaign of Georgia.  Lessons developed for Clean Air Schools help to ensure that our school is empowered to make a difference for our environment. By learning to “repair the air” with no-idling initiatives, promoting alternative modes of transportation (walking and riding the bus) and becoming involved with the air quality lesson plans, BRES students will become stewards for good air quality.

Help us be part of the solution to improving Georgia’s air quality!

Our Misson: read how environmental education benefits your child and our community
Our Mission:  to improve education through hands-on, real-world, project based learning about the total environment (inside and outside the classroom). A team of teachers, custodial staff, administrators, parents and students work together to teach and create programs about conservation and other environmental issues. Our goal is to create school-wide  awareness, and take the message home and into the local community. Activities and programs revolving around  environmental themes are developed and integrated into the school curriculum and school culture. Students conduct research and learn to advocate for energy and environmental solutions.  Components of of our program include waste reduction, energy efficiency, school gardens, and other frameworks that support a sustainable and healthy educational environment.
We are excited that BRES has been chosen as one of six schools to test an easier, more efficient recycling program that offers collection of materials in a single container. This pilot program, a partnership between Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and Gwinnett County Public Schools, will help determine the true cost of school recycling and explore the feasibility of implementing it in all Gwinnett County Public Schools.

The pilot program began at the start of January and will include the recycling of paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles.  The pilot will end in June 2012.

Recycling bags for aluminum and cans will be set up in the
Science Lab for in-house collections.  Special thanks goes to
Mr. Nowak's 5th graders for being this year's "Green Team"!
